The Best Halloween Food For Your Spooky Soirée

Admit it – the best Halloween parties are completely over-the-top, and these creative recipes are nothing short of Halloween food art. From ghoulish graze boards to cutesy cupcakes, serving up spooky Halloween food is the best way to set the stage for a frightfully fabulous night. With a little help from some of our favorite fiends, we’re sharing the best Halloween appetizers – all starring California Prunes, of course. Get ready for a killer recipe round-up.

Day of the Dead Graze Board

Creating this spook-tacular Day of The Dead graze board is easier than you think! We carved a brie round into the shape of a skull and then filled the “cavities” in with prune jam. Next, we twirled salami into a floral headdress and secured the “roses” with toothpicks. From here, you can get creative, using any of your favorite dried and fresh fruits and nuts- but we love how the California Prunes create a dark backdrop that contrasts nicely with the skull centerpiece.

FYI – If you didn’t already know, prunes + brie are a perfect pairing. Need proof? Try this Cedar Planked Brie with Prune Rosemary Sauce from our friends at California Grown!

Raw Witches’ Fingers

These Raw Witches fingers only look scary! They’re full of good-for-you ingredients like nuts, seeds, dried fruit and spices. Want to go all out macabre? Dip the ends of the fingers in red fruit purée for an even creepier treat.

Nightmare Before Christmas Graze Board

This dreadfully darling graze board pays homage to Tim Burton’s animated cult classic, Nightmare Before Christmas. To create distinction between Jack and Sally’s faces, we carefully removed the outer layer of half of a brie round . On one side, we carved out an eye cavity, and filled it with prune jam. On the other side, we cut some of the casing into the shape of an eye. To create the mouth, we used thinly sliced colorful Swiss chard stems and halved sliced olives. Small cherry tomato wedges form Sally’s lips, and Swiss chard stems were again used for Jack’s eyebrow, nostril and to outline Sally’s eye. Sally’s face is set off by salami swirls (we know…her hair is straight…we took a bit of artistic license). Finally, we used California Prunes, blueberries and blackberries to create a dramatic background and fill in the graze board.
