What is a Champagne cocktail?

A Champagne cocktail is exactly what it sounds like – Champagne mixed into a cocktail! Bubbly is obviously fabulous as it, but adding in flavorful mixers can help to set the tone for your party. It also results in a lower alcohol cocktail that’s refreshing and easy to sip. Pro-tip: Need a non-alcoholic version? Use sparkling water instead of Champagne!

What’s in our Stormy Sparkler Champagne Cocktail?

Four simple ingredients transform your glass of bubbly from to a moody masterpiece. We used:

Prune Juice

Champagne (or Sparkling Wine or Prosecco) *we’ll elaborate on this shortly

The Stormy Sparkler is still bubbly and refreshing, but the prune juice + Chambord add sweet rich notes. If you’re starting to get fall/winter vibes – you’ve hit the nail on the head. This is our go-to champagne cocktail from Spooky Season all the way through to the start of spring!

Are Champagne and Prosecco the same? What about sparkling wine?

You can use Champagne, Prosecco or sparkling wine to make our Stormy Sparkler cocktail. So what’s the difference between the three? Many people use the term “champagne” for all types of bubbly. True Champagne is region-designate, meaning is was grown and produced only in the Champagne region of France. The same goes for Prosecco – the simplest explanation is that it’s an Italian version of Champagne (to be clear, both Prosecco and Champagne are made with different types of grapes, using different methods – but that’s a story for another day). Here in California, we produce sparkling wines using the same grapes and methods used to produce Champagne, it’s simply called “sparkling wine” instead. Since we’re big fans of all things California, we tend to reach for a California sparkling wine when making this cocktail.
