The prune industry is strengthening the economic health of the communities in which we operate every day.

California has higher agricultural standards than most other nations, which means jobs in our industry are solid jobs that require skilled laborers who can commit to following strict guidelines every day they come to work.

Each year, the California Prune industry generates more than $717 million in annual economic impact flowing into the state economy creating and sustaining more than 7,000 full-time equivalent jobs. While the industry is not at capacity, it is more well-saturated with jobs than many other agricultural niches, and those who work in the prune industry receive fair wages across the board.

This means people aspire to work prunes. It means jobs in our industry are in high demand.

Perhaps most important, while prunes are a labor-intensive crop, the industry supports fair labor practices and prioritizes safe working conditions for all workers. Most growers, producers, and processors offer medical benefits for all employees. Many took care of those workers during the recent COVID-19 pandemic, even keeping them on the payroll when operations were shut down due to concerns about public health.
